Dana 60 Drivetrain Hub
The Dana 60 is the axle under a huge share of serious truck, Jeep and drag builds - and when one comes apart, it usually needs more than one part. This hub pulls together every Dana 60 part we currently have in stock: lockers and limited-slips, ring & pinion gear sets from 3.54 to 5.38, differential covers, install and bearing kits, front axle shafts, locking hubs and spools - 24 parts from Eaton, Richmond Gear, Motive Gear, Strange Engineering, Moser, Spicer, Warn, Yukon, Ratech and more. Every product listed is in stock and ready to ship, and every order over $200 ships free.
OUR DANA 60 PICKS
| Part | Type | Key spec (from the product listing) | Price | Why it is here |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ELocker4 - Dana 60 35-Spline | Selectable locker | 35-spline, for 4.10 & down carriers | $1,488.99 | The Eaton ELocker4 on this page is listed for 35-spline Dana 60 axles with 4.10-and-down gearing - check your carrier series before ordering. |
| Detroit Locker - Dana 60 35-Spline | Automatic locker | 35-spline, for 4.56 & up carriers | $992.99 | The Detroit Locker listed here is the 4.56-and-up version - the carrier break is the first thing to confirm on any Dana 60 locker order. |
| Detroit Truetrac - Dana 60 35-Spline | Helical limited-slip | 35-spline, for 4.10 & down carriers | $864.99 | The Detroit Truetrac is a limited-slip carrier rather than a full locker - the street-and-trail middle ground in this line-up. |
| 4.10 Ratio Dana 60 | Ring & pinion | 4.10 ratio, 29-spline pinion, 9.75 in ring gear | $456.99 | A Richmond 4.10 gear set - one of five ratios on this page, from 3.54 to 5.38. |
| Dana 60 Alum Rear Cover Cover | Differential cover | Aluminum, gasket & hardware included | $245.00 | Moser aluminum rear cover for the Dana 60, listed with gasket and hardware included. |
START WITH SPLINE COUNT AND CARRIER SERIES
Two numbers decide whether a Dana 60 carrier or locker fits your axle: axle spline count and carrier series. Every locker and limited-slip on this page is a 35-spline unit - count your axle splines (or check your build sheet) before you order, because 30-spline Dana 60 axles exist too. Carrier series matters just as much: the carriers on this page are split at the ratio break - the Eaton ELocker4 and Detroit Truetrac listed here are for 4.10 and down, the Detroit Locker for 4.56 and up. Order the wrong side of the break and the gear set will not set up correctly.
CHOOSING A GEAR RATIO
Gear sets on this page run from 3.54 to 5.38 (Richmond and Motive Gear, 29-spline pinion, 9.75 in ring gear). As a rule of thumb, numerically lower ratios (3.54, 3.73) turn fewer engine revs at highway speed, and numerically higher ratios (4.88, 5.13, 5.38) multiply torque more and are the usual pick when tire diameter has grown well past stock. There is no single right ratio - it follows your tire size, transmission and how the vehicle is actually used - and whichever ratio you choose, confirm the carrier series above before pairing it with a locker.
DO NOT REUSE THE OLD INSTALL HARDWARE
A gear or carrier swap is the wrong place to save money on bearings and shims. The install kits on this page - from Ratech, Richmond Gear, Strange Engineering and Allstar Performance - bundle the bearings, gaskets, seals, shims and hardware the job calls for (the Richmond and Ratech complete kits list exactly that content), and fresh ring gear bolts are on the page too. Setting pinion depth and backlash is precision work: the manufacturers of these parts recommend professional installation, and so do we unless you have the dial indicators, bearing pullers and experience the job needs.
COVERS, FRONT-AXLE PARTS AND THE REST OF THE HUB
Beyond gears and carriers, this page carries differential covers (aluminum support covers from Strange and Moser, Proform, and a chrome steel cover at the budget end), front Dana 60 parts for 4x4 builds - Spicer front axle shafts, Warn and Yukon 35-spline locking hubs, a Reid Racing kingpin steering knuckle and Stage 8 spindle-nut locking hardware - and a Strange 35-spline lightweight Pro Race spool for dedicated drag applications, where a spool's solid lock-up is the point and street manners are not.
QUESTIONS DANA 60 OWNERS ASK US
How do I know my axle is really a Dana 60? Check the bill-of-materials (BOM) number stamped on the axle tube and run it against Dana/Spicer's lookup, and confirm the cover and ring gear size (the gear sets here are 9.75 in). If you are not sure, call us with the BOM number before ordering parts.
Locker, Truetrac or spool - which do I want? A selectable locker (ELocker4) is open until you engage it; an automatic locker (Detroit Locker) locks under torque on its own; the Truetrac is a helical-gear limited-slip that biases torque without fully locking; a spool locks both axles together permanently and is a race-only choice. The right answer is about how and where you drive - call us and we will talk it through against the parts on this page.
Can I install gears and a locker myself? It is specialist work - pinion depth, preload and backlash all have to be set and checked with the right tools, and the part manufacturers recommend professional installation. If you are deciding between two ratios or carriers, call us at 213-549-4279 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm PT) and we will match the parts to your axle and tire size.
